Jovan, Queen of Halloween…
October 31st , generally associated with ghosts and goblins and witches and ghouls has long been hailed as a day that the Christian church has placed a taboo on, sidetracking the traditional trick-or-treat for Fall Festivals and Harvestfests. Or, as we once put on in Kokomo, the 5F’s - FFFFF Fabulous Fall Family Fun Festival.
It has traditionally been a time of dressing up and a non-stop headache of door bell ringing little moppets clad in black and orange mooching candy off every subdivision in the metro area that their SUV driving mom’s can cover in one 4 hour period.
For our family it has been traditionally a time of kids and now grandkids dressing up, having fun and as of late the infamous broccoli and cheese soup night.
But now, our All Hallow’s Eve celebration has taken a slightly different direction. Yes, we still have the candy and the masks and the soup consumption but we have added the celebration of a birth. A destiny for Rocky and a foreshadowing for Averi and our new little one soon to be introduced.
It is the birth of our Jovanie. And a blessed birth it is.
It was blessed when you came into the world.
It was blessed when you came into our lives.
It was blessed when you met Rocky.
It was blessed when you married Rocky.
It was blessed when Averi was born.
And it is blessed when another little Rhoades will grace the world.
Jovan, you are a joy in our lives and a completing helper to Rocky. Your smile and gentle ways make room for you and your love of Averi and the next little one will be a blessing to them for generations. You are a woman of joy and love. A caring sister. Loving daughter. And adoring wife. Your gift will make way for you.
And so, Jovanie, I bless you.
I bless your coming in and your going out.
I bless the fruit of your womb.
I bless you as my daughter, as Rocky’s wife and your children’s mother.
I bless you as a woman of God who will help Rocky take ministry to many people and nations.
I bless you and love you.
I am glad that October 31st is no longer just about ringing door bells and candy corn. It is All Hallow’s Eve when Jovan was born to do the Father’s bidding.
